2024 EU Youth Report Now Available

The latest European Commission report provides insights into young people’s lives in the EU and the
progress of the 2019-2027 EU Youth Strategy. The report outlines key challenges, including 10% youth
unemployment and widespread mental health concerns, with nearly 50% of young people experiencing
emotional difficulties. Educational gaps remain significant, as 30% of 15-year-olds struggle with basic
math, and 28% lack digital skills.

The report is complemented by a new Eurobarometer survey, which highlights young people’s views on
EU policies. Security and defense are top priorities for 31% of respondents, while 38% emphasize the
need for affordable housing and cost-of-living support. Encouragingly, 65% of young Europeans express
satisfaction with EU democracy, though 34% identify misinformation as a major threat.

Six in ten young Europeans believe the EU positively impacts society, valuing free movement across
member states (32%), strong intergovernmental solidarity (28%), and the EU’s commitment to democracy
and fundamental values (25%).

Looking ahead, the European Commission will continue engaging with young people and stakeholders in
2025-2026 to shape the next EU Youth Strategy beyond 2027.
